ClearpathCross-border payments as inventory

Clearpath

Transfers between countries that mostly never cross a border.

The problem

Sending money abroad usually means moving it abroad. Each transfer pays a conversion spread and a correspondent bank fee, and takes days, even when someone in the other country is sending almost the same amount the other way.

The approach

Clearpath keeps a pool of local cash in every country. The sender funds the pool at home and the recipient is paid at once from the pool in theirs, so nothing crosses a border for the transfer itself.

The pools are run like warehouse stock. A forecaster estimates each country's daily payouts and sets a stocking level with safety stock, and a rebalancer wires only the net imbalance between countries when a pool falls below it.

What a run shows

In the default run, 90 days of simulated traffic over 12 corridors and 6 countries, all 12,132 transfers were paid out instantly. Of $10.6M sent, only $3.5M had to be wired. The other 67% never crossed a border.

Try it yourself

Start a pool nearly empty, slow the wires down or double the demand, and watch the rebalancer respond. Every run is checked against a double-entry ledger.

The engine started as a Python prototype. The JavaScript version you run here was checked against it transfer by transfer. It is a simulation, with no real funds or banks behind it.
